For student interested in law- and justice-related education, Atlanta offers a variety of programs. Georgia State University offers bachelor and master’s degrees in criminal justice, while Clark Atlanta University has a master’s program in criminal justice administration. Morehouse College offers a criminal justice minor through its sociology department and a pre-law program through its political science department. American InterContinental University Buckhead has a new criminal justice education program. Students interested in becoming lawyers can choose Emory Law School or John Marshall Law School.
Atlanta is expected to experience explosive growth through 2010 in criminal justice jobs. Protective services occupations are forecast to grow overall by 41 percent, with increases of 61 percent for police and sheriff’s patrol officers, 42 percent for detectives and criminal investigators, and 27 percent for security guards. Probation officers and correctional treatment specialists can expect a 50 percent increase in job opportunities. Legal occupations will also undergo healthy growth, with expected increases of 17 percent for paralegals and lawyers and 25 percent for court reporters.
